Navratra with new thought – 1

Let us embark on something new this Navratri.

Science tells us that the entire universe is composed of atoms (matter) and energy. Perhaps this very thought forms the foundation of the spiritual reference to Shiva and Shakti.

Both science and spirituality agree that atoms (Shiva) and energy (Shakti, also referred to as Maa Durga or by any name you hold sacred) existed before the creation of the universe and will remain even when the universe ceases to exist.

Do you realize that you are worshipping the very energy that is omnipotent, capable of traveling anywhere with a speed surpassing even that of light, as described by science? This energy, known in spirituality as Kundalini Shakti, exists not only in the universe but also within our own beings. It is no wonder that Lord Krishna declared that the entire cosmos resides within us.

Now, let us reflect on what we truly engage in during Navratri.

In our daily lives, we operate predominantly outwardly, and this continues even during Navratri. You visit places of worship, perform rituals, recite mantras, wear specific attire, sleep on the floor, observe fasts, and most importantly, meditate—all these are external actions.

You may question how meditation can be considered external. Friends, as long as the mind is involved, true meditation does not exist. It becomes an illusion of inner focus.

Before we proceed further, let us clarify that we are not suggesting you abandon any of these practices during Navratri. Do so only if your inner calling guides you. Otherwise, continue as you are.

What we propose is to add a few practices to your existing routine during Navratri. These small changes, if embraced, will bring a unique sense of renewal. Once you find these practices meaningful, we can explore how to incorporate them into your daily life.

Suggested Practices for This Navratri

  1. Reimagining Your Bathing Ritual
Replace soap with a simple and natural cleansing method to experience a sense of freshness and purity.

    • If you bathe using a bucket, add three pinches of salt to the water before bathing.
    • If you use a shower, prepare a small container with three pinches of salt and gently pour it over your body while showering.
    • Rub your skin gently, as if applying soap.
    • You may continue using soap for your face, hair, and private areas if you wish.
    • Try this for all nine days or alternate between soap and this natural method every other day, depending on your comfort.
  2. Minimizing the Use of Cosmetics
    • While you may continue applying creams or other products to your face, consider reducing their usage to embrace your natural appearance.
    • Spend more time in your authentic self and observe the sense of connection it fosters.
  3. Avoid Perfumes and Synthetic Fragrances
    • Refrain from using perfumes, deodorants, powders, or attars during Navratri.
    • By doing so, you will notice that your natural body scent becomes subtler, and your body feels fresher and more vibrant.

The essence of these practices is to align with your true, unaltered self. As you embrace this simplicity, you may discover a profound sense of inner purity and vitality. Let this Navratri be a journey into your authentic self—a step toward both physical and spiritual rejuvenation.
