Weightlessness Meditation – 2

Vigyan Bhairava Tantra

Sutra- 82

Beloved friends, through the method described in this sutra, one can liberate oneself from the clutches of thought, and that too in a remarkably simple way.

This practice can be undertaken at any time, whether during the day or night. Sit in Siddhasana, Sukhasana, or Vajrasana, or even on a chair—whatever feels most comfortable for you. You may perform this practice with eyes open or closed, as per your preference.

For optimal results, we suggest practicing this method in a park or on the ground, sitting in Siddhasana or Vajrasana, or even standing, with eyes closed. This will expedite your progress, though consistent effort over time will also yield success.

According to the method outlined in this sutra, once you have settled into your position, your breathing should gradually become slow, deep, and long. Begin by focusing on your breath, and then visualize yourself becoming weightless, as though the force of gravity is diminishing around you. In Siddhasana or Vajrasana, the pull of gravity naturally feels reduced, and as you adjust your posture, find the point where gravity’s effect is minimal, allowing yourself to stabilize in that state.

In spiritual disciplines, maintaining an upright spine is emphasized for precisely this reason—to reduce the influence of the earth’s gravitational force upon you. It may take some days of practice, but eventually, you will sense that your body’s weight is diminishing. A moment will come when you feel as though you are floating in the air, untethered. On that day, you will encounter your true self, for the soul itself is weightless. Through this method, the state of meditation becomes attainable more swiftly.

When the sensation of weightlessness is achieved, your thoughts too will dissolve, for they are part of the body’s domain. Without the body, thought has no anchor. In this state of weightlessness, you align with your soul—the infinite source of existence. Here, you transcend the physical realm and unite with the eternal.
