Vigayan Bhairava Tantra
Sutra – 31
Dear friends, at the center of our forehead—approximately one and a half to two fingers above the space between the eyebrows—lies the third eye, known as the Ajna Chakra or the Third Eye of Shiva and Durga.
Modern medical science identifies this area with the pineal gland, located in the brain’s center, and directly opposite to it is the pituitary gland. Both glands are of immense significance for the body. The pineal gland secretes the hormone melatonin, which regulates sleep-wake cycles. Some psychologists also refer to this gland as the “third eye” of the human body. The pituitary gland, on the other hand, secretes hormones that directly influence our behavior, alongside other hormones related to sexuality, earning it the title “Master Gland” in medical science.
Every human being possesses this third eye, though it is not naturally active at birth. Yet, it is not entirely dormant either. According to science, many animals and birds possess heightened instincts due to the pineal gland, enabling them to perceive accurately without traditional sight.
Activating the third eye requires extreme care. However, caution is a natural part of various activities in life. If you approach daily tasks without fear, why hesitate in this practice?
Even physical yoga requires attentiveness. It advises against excessive practice, overstressing any part of the body, or ignoring recommended precautions. Should you experience discomfort during yoga, you are advised to consult an expert or doctor. Similarly, overindulgence in anything, whether physical or mental, often yields undesirable results. The same principle applies to the third eye.
Imagine learning to swim. Without entering the water, you cannot become a swimmer. To start, you would select a river with a gentle current, shallow waters, and gradually increase your time in the water. Applying this same cautious approach to activating your third eye will lead to mastery over time.
While embracing spirituality or tantra, remember this vital point: do not pursue these practices with the desire for specific outcomes. Instead, let your intent be natural and free from attachment. Trust that whatever you receive through meditation or tantric practice is meant for you. Adopt a steady and calm approach, accepting what arises naturally without forcing results.
Undoubtedly, through meditation, you can activate your third eye, enhancing the functioning of your pineal gland. This gland is sensitive to the bioelectric signals of light and darkness in the environment. Meditation can awaken this bioelectric energy, which, with practice, can be directed toward the pineal gland, the pituitary gland, or both. With this energy, even seemingly impossible tasks can become achievable. However, during meditation, your mind must be stable, as a still mind aligns your scattered energy into a single focused stream.
Activating the third eye makes your brain more energized and sharpens your perception. You will gain insight into yourself and others—without words or even direct sight. You may even foresee events yet to unfold.
